Before Laramie County Library Foundation's First Steps: Early Literacy Begins at Home program could officially kick off, a major fundraising effort was required. The Foundation sought original photography of children and parents engaging in their favorite library activities for use in the fundraising campaign materials. A driving theme for all the photographs was to ensure that the photographs weren't stilted or staged, and reflected the diversity of library patrons so new families might see themselves reflected in the crowd of "regulars" who utilize the library.

This campaign was able to raise a record $1mil in a relatively short amount of time, ensuring resources and outreach for underrepresented families in Laramie County.
